Harbour Retreat
A kitchen haven that’s perfect for this harbour-side retreat
Our customers desired comfort and relaxation in their harbour-side weekend retreat. They sought a tranquil escape that we interpreted as relaxed and easy dining around an island peninsula. This feature shaped an essential and cherished ritual, creating lasting memories by the water’s edge.
By steering the scheme towards Leicht’s Le Corbusier colour range and combining the stunning German kitchen furniture with the large format Infinity worksurface in Chianca di Ostuni, a calm and neutral simplicity emerged. To add a little luxury, the resilience of the engineered porcelain worktop surface carved out some light and texture where, through the mitre-front at 4cm thick and the step up to an impressive 7cm, the dynamic for the stand-out dining area became a focal point. This stunning surface was then cast around the windowsills for a seamless continuation to draw the eye to the gorgeous view that lies beyond.
For practicality we ensured this was an intuitive kitchen. Gaggenau series 400 appliances, with zero degrees and moisture control capability, provide the greatest cooling performance available so food keeps fresh over weeks between family visits, and the ovens with steam combination and microwave combination was specifically chosen from Miele’s Vitroline range so any family or friend using the home would be instantly up and running without the need for a tutorial.
To further enhance the usability and ease of the space as a place to cook, clean and most importantly to socialise, the Pro3 modular cooktops by BORA were neatly recessed into the porcelain work surface. Moving slightly away from the central hub of the kitchen, we located the split zone wine cooler close to the dedicated drinks preparation area to create a second social space; for easy reach, we strategically integrated the large planting parapet of culinary herbs for food and beverages close by. The herbs served to hide the island prep-sink and Quooker tap from view to continue the sleek styling.
Simplifying the space whilst achieving pared-down luxury was essential to this design, allowing the beauty of the surroundings to say all that really needs to be said.
