The Birches

Sharing a passion for design to cook up a treat

After successfully collaborating on their previous home, we were thrilled to once again partner with these clients, who share our passion for both interior design and culinary excellence.

Their home underwent a stunning transformation, featuring a spacious deck and breathtaking views across their lush garden. To complement this, we designed a modern, practical kitchen that not only embraced the vista but also encouraged interaction with guests during meal preparation. A generously sized island became the heart of the space.

Equipped with a Quooker boiling water tap and a discreet food waste collector integrated seamlessly into the Dekton worksurface, the Leicht island furniture facilitates effortless cooking and clean-up. The Solon sink from Blanco ensures a sleek aesthetic while offering practical functionality.

For this dynamic couple who often work from home, the island serves as a multifunctional hub where they gather for breakfast, lunch, and occasional work sessions. Crafted from Wild Oak Alpine veneer by Leicht, the cantilevered work and dining space exudes warmth and character, harmonizing beautifully with the surrounding cabinetry.

To maintain a clutter-free environment, we incorporated a pocket-door pantry for storing appliances, while a sleek up-and-over wall unit provides convenient access to essential glassware and cutlery.

The kitchen boasts top-of-the-line appliances, including the BORA XPure venting hob and Fisher & Paykel ovens, chosen for their exceptional performance and design. The handle-less Contino cabinets, adorned in Leicht’s Pearl door finish, add a touch of sophistication with their shimmering metallic undertones and durable acrylic coating.

A shallow wooden bowl filled with small red and orange tomatoes sits on a grey worktop against a stone splashback with tan veining, framed by East Dulwich-inspired light wood cabinetry and under-cabinet lighting.

Completing the look is the striking Laurent Dekton work surface, featuring dramatic veins of gold reminiscent of Port Laurent natural stone. Book matched across the expansive 4-meter island, it creates a captivating focal point amidst the interplay of wood veneers and metallic accents.
