This kitchen project is nestled within the hilly terrain of Guildford, where the owner’s renovation plans included a full-width extension to the back of the property.
As you are guided through the house from the front door, the opening to the extension greets you with a burst of natural light as sleek steps take you downwards into an airy, open plan space. Stepping down, your eye is drawn towards the bi-fold doors and out towards the garden, as you are hit with the stunning views overlooking the city, reminding you of the drive up the hill to get here and the vantage point this home has.
The open plan space of this extension now provides the family with a multi-functional social area, where they can cook, eat and relax together within the defined kitchen, dining and lounge areas, beautifully connected to the existing living room with a large, single pane square window, that also functionally provides natural light into the existing part of the home.
The kitchen sits comfortably to the left of the extension, designed perfectly for the family’s busy day-to-day schedule and their relaxed weekend entertaining. An L-shaped design with a central island with bar seating, sets of tall units bookend an open sink niche that has elongated wall units above. Simple and modest, this design is subtly functional with cooking, cleaning and storage all within easy reach, creating the well-known kitchen triangle.
Armed with inspiration images, the owner knew what she was looking for and together with the designer they were able to achieve the key design elements that worked perfectly for their space and brought their vision to life. In keeping with the overall open plan scheme, the finishes are minimal using a warm neutral palette, with soft mohair, oak veneer in copper tones and striking marble effect worktops, together creating an almost Italian holiday vibe.
The design combines the use of handleless systems with Leicht’s colour matched grip handle vertically on the tall units and complimented with a veneer Kyoto plant-on handle on the front of the island. Keeping the look sleek and minimal; a great example of how Hubble can really tailor your kitchen design to your needs.
Sintered stone worktops were chosen for this design, for the durability and easy maintenance properties, as well as the beautiful marble effect veining. Also used for the backsplash within the sink niche, this became the feature of the kitchen; that wow-factor feature that quietly but proudly sits within the space, bringing the design together.
As always, form follows function, so the kitchen also includes high-end appliances that enhances their cooking experience. Their surface extraction hob by Siemens allows them to keep the views to the garden unobstructed and the space above their island light and airy, making room for a sleek and minimal pendant light. The stacked ovens by Siemens offer top of the range cooking with precise cooking features that are easy to use, making their cooking perfect every time. The Quooker tap provides efficient and fast boiling water with a simple tap-tap turn and compliments the scheme in the antique brass finish. Integrated appliances such as the cooling storage (your fridge and freezer!) and dishwasher are perfectly concealed within the design as so not to spoil the overall look, but still provide the users with their necessary functions.
A supply-only kitchen, this design installation was managed and carried out by the owners, an option that is open to all our customers, as we work with each customer closely to provide a service that works for you and your project.
